FairlySoon relies on a modern browser running on a modern operating system, ideally on relatively modern hardware. In particular, this combination needs to support a technology called 'WebGPU' in order to display the weather maps and provide the high performance passage routing.
Browsers and devices that should support WebGPU#
Use the latest version of your browser. Based on Can I Use’s WebGPU support table and the WebGPU platform notes, these combinations should provide the support FairlySoon needs:
- Windows laptops and desktops: Chrome or Edge 113+, or Opera 99+, on Intel or AMD PCs with compatible graphics. Windows on ARM is still limited.
- Macs: Chrome or Edge 113+, or Opera 99+. Safari 26+ also supports WebGPU when running on macOS Tahoe 26 or later; updating Safari alone on an older macOS release is not enough.
- iPhones and iPads: Safari on iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later.
- Android phones and tablets: Chrome 121+ on Android 12+ with a supported GPU, including Qualcomm Adreno and ARM Mali. Samsung Internet 24+ also supports WebGPU, though availability depends on the device.
- Chromebooks: Chrome 113+ on a Chromebook with compatible graphics (Vulkan support).
- Linux computers: Chrome 144+ with Intel Gen12 or newer graphics, or Chrome 147+ with NVIDIA graphics using Wayland and driver 535.183.01 or newer. Other hardware and driver combinations remain limited.
- Firefox: WebGPU is available from Firefox 141 on Windows and Firefox 145 on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 26+. Firefox 147 extends this to other supported macOS versions on Apple silicon. Linux, Intel Macs and Android are not yet enabled in standard releases.
This is a guide to expected support, not a guarantee for every device. We have encountered problems with Firefox in FairlySoon; if it does not work, try another browser listed above. Graphics drivers, hardware acceleration and available memory can also affect whether the app runs well.
If it does not work#
- Update your browser, operating system and graphics drivers. Enable hardware acceleration where the browser offers it, then restart the browser.
- Open FairlySoon directly in the browser rather than inside an email or social app. Close other demanding tabs and try again.
- Try another listed browser or device. If the problem persists, contact us with your device model, OS and browser versions, and any error message.
